China appoints new central bank vice governor

Hu Xiaolian has been appointed vice governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC) by China's State Council, the cabinet, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

Hu took up a position as director of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) in March this year and has acted as an assistant to the governor of the PBOC.

Reuters said she was expected to remain as the director of SAFE as well as central bank vice governor.

At 46 Hu is an expert in currency management following experience
