SNB to test wholesale CBDC in real-world pilot

Tokenised assets will be settled on the SIX Digital Exchange

The Swiss National Bank would issue a wholesale central bank digital currency (wCBDC) for use by Switzerland’s main provider of financial infrastructure services “soon”, chairman Thomas Jordan said at a conference on June 26. 

The SNB will launch the wholesale CBDC on the SIX Digital Exchange, to settle transactions of tokenised securities as part of a pilot for a limited time. 

Jordan’s comments come after the SNB, Bank for International Settlements and SIX reported successfully integrating
