RBI expands branch network to north-east India

Kohima branch gives central bank presence in six of region’s seven states

The Reserve Bank of India opened a new branch office in Kohima, the capital of the north-eastern state of Nagaland, on June 13.

The facility is a sub-branch of the RBI’s office in Guwahati, the largest city in the region. Deputy governor Michael Patra attended the opening of the office.

With the opening of the Kohima office, the RBI now has a presence in six of India’s seven north-eastern states. The RBI plans to open an office in the seventh state, Arunachal Pradesh, “shortly”. The RBI has 31
