Bank of Thailand plans overseas PromptPay connections

Central bank aims to connect to retail instant payment systems in other countries

The Bank of Thailand is working with a number of central banks to link its real-time retail payment systems to those in other jurisdictions, according to a central bank official.

Speaking at Central Banking’s spring meeting event today (March 16) Naphongthawat Phothikit, director for payment systems policy at the Bank of Thailand, said plans were underway to link its domestic QR code system – known as PromptPay – with others around the globe.
