Guidelines set out advice for handling branches with “critical” functions

The European Banking Authority has issued advice to European Union supervisory authorities on which branches of financial institutions should be classified as “significant-plus”.

A branch should be assessed as “significant-plus” if it qualifies as “significant” under the EU’s capital requirements directive and if it also performs critical functions either for its own financial institution or for the country in which it is based, the EBA says in its final guidance, published on November 1.
