Patrick Pearson, the acting director of the European Commission's financial markets directorate, today said it was imperative that American and European regulators were "talking the same language".

Pearson told the audience at a Central Bank of Ireland conference on banking and securities regulation that global regulators "actually talk far more than in the past" but warned that notable differences persist.
