Fall in oil prices and financial volatility both “stabilising” – Richmond Fed president

US inflation is likely to rise close to 2% this year, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond said on April 12. Global risks to the US have subsided, Jeffrey Lacker said in a speech in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Financial market volatility has decreased considerably since the first months of 2016, he said. US inflation has been "held down temporarily" by falling oil prices and the dollar's appreciation.

But both factors are stabilising, and neither seem likely to depress inflation
