Hakkarainen: potential for international competition in mortgage lending

While many segments of banking have become increasingly international, the mortgage lending markets have remained stagnant, but that could change, according to a deputy governor at the Bank of Finland.

Pentti Hakkarainen told the Nordic Mortgage Council house buyers are well prepared when it comes to comparing competing loan offers, while noting that as financial systems have improved since the financial crisis, the European credit sector has strengthened.

As a result Hakkarainen believes that,
