Kuroda calls for research into political constraints on monetary policy

Haruhiko Kuroda, the Bank of Japan (BoJ) governor, today called for further research into the political and administrative constraints that bind central banks' policy-making.

Kuroda told an audience at the University of Tokyo that "political and administrative feasibilities should be properly recognised, as they limit the space of policies that can actually be pursued".

He stressed the importance of developing an accurate understanding of the "behaviour and values" of "politically crucial
