BoE’s Barker on the future of policymaking

Kate Barker, an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), has reiterated the importance of price stability as the primary objective of monetary policy despite the extraordinary actions taken by central banks in recent months.

"I remain doubtful that monetary policy could have done very much more to alleviate the depth of the recession" she said in a speech at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research on Monday.

Barker challenged some of her former colleagues at the MPC
