Interview with governor of Iraqi central bank

Asharq Al-Awsat, a leading Arab English-language newspaper, has published a far-reaching interview with Dr Sinan Al-Shabibi, the governor of Iraq's central bank. Some of the main points are summarised below.

Asked about the large volume of the government's budget ($4Ibn dollars) plus $21bn of currency reserves, but the lack of expenditure on public services, the governor replied that implementation of government expenditure was hindered by the security situation, as well as other reasons
