Buba paper covers US drivers of imbalances
A Bundesbank paper, published on Friday, attempts to explain the factors in the US economy that have led to global imbalances emerging.
Mathias Hoffmann, Michael Krause and Thomas Laubach, the paper's authors, examine to what extent the build-up of global imbalances since the mid-1990s can be explained without resorting to financial factors.
Hoffmann, Krause and Laubach argue that while financial factors are likely to have played a role in the global imbalances, slowing productivity growth
