Former CNB governor fails in bid to become mayor

Zdenek Tůma, the former governor of the Czech National Bank (CNB), will not become the next mayor of Prague despite his party winning the most votes in municipal elections last month.

The Wall Street Journal, a newspaper, on Tuesday reported that the Prague Civic Democrats (ODS) and Social Democrats (CSSD), two Czech political parties, had agreed on a coalition deal that will see Bohuslav Svoboda, a doctor and the ODS candidate for the mayor's seat, take the position of mayor to Prague.
