Zimbabwean inflation hits fresh record

The official count of Zimbabwean inflation indicated that the rate of price growth more than doubled in December.

The Central Statistics Office reported that the year-on-year rate of inflation shot up to 66,200% from 26,500% in November. Month-on-month inflation rose 240%, meaning prices rose by an average of 7.7% every day, which far exceeds the annualised rate in many countries.

The official figure is said to vastly underestimate the actual rate of inflation.

The government attempted to dampen
