ECB rejects plan to cut Finland's capital base

In a statement issued on on Thursday 16 October, the European Central Bank rejected the proposal to decrease the Bank of Finland's capital base by some 700 million euros, and the proposal to transfer all the central bank's profits to the state in future. Bank of Finland Governor Matti Vanhala fears that with less capital the central bank would be incapable of coping with a financial crisis.
