Most central banks operate in jurisdictions with deposit guarantee schemes

Few operate their country’s DGS, and some are working to reform schemes’ design

Most central banks participating in the Financial Stability Benchmarks 2023 report that their jurisdictions have deposit guarantee schemes (DGSs). But most of those central banks say they do not directly run their country’s scheme.

Of the 31 responding central banks, 28 – or 90.3% – say their countries have a deposit guarantee scheme. Only three (9.7%) say they do not.

Central banks from upper-middle income countries are more likely to say they have a DGS than those from high income nations
