Head of Securities and Exchange Commission to step down in January

White says agency has brought about “fundamental reforms”

The head of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) – one of the most important of the country's financial regulators – has announced she will step down in mid-January.

Mary Jo White will step down as chair of the SEC when the Barack Obama administration leaves office, following the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump on January 20, she said yesterday (November 14). White said she was "very proud" of three consecutive years of taking a record number of enforcement actions
