Leo Leiderman nominated as Bank of Israel governor

Leonardo Leiderman, the chief economist of Israel's largest bank, has been nominated as the next governor of the Bank of Israel – prompting deputy governor Karnit Flug to stand down after 25 years at the central bank.

Leiderman was nominated for the post yesterday by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and finance minister Yair Lapid, just days after their preferred candidate Jacob Frenkel withdrew his candidacy.

In doing so, they passed over Karnit Flug for the job for a second time. When
