Kenyan coin shortage denied by central bank
The Central Bank of Kenya has assured the general public the country is not experiencing a coin shortage, despite local media reports stating that sweets and matchboxes have replaced coins for transactions in some parts of the country.
There are "sufficient quantities" of all denominations of currency coins in circulation, with nine million additional coins released into the Kenyan economy in October through commercial banks, according to a central bank statement this week.
