IMF: Central Bank of Iran should ‘streamline’ committee membership

IMF assessment warns of committees “dominated” by government agencies

The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) should limit the number of government agency officials on its committees to protect its independence, a team from the International Monetary Fund said on October 3.

In a statement on the conclusion of the nation's latest Article IV consultation, the fund noted a number of factors limiting the central bank's ability to safeguard price stability, one of which concerns a proposed amendment to the central bank bill.
