Argentina releases first inflation data following statistics overhaul
Prices for transportation, food and housing drive up inflation
Argentina's statistical agency, Indec, has released its first official inflation data following an overhaul in how the data is produced. Prices rose 4.2% in May, the agency announced on June 15.
For weeks analysts have speculated annual inflation is hovering around 40%, with an expected 3.8% month-on-month figure for May.
Professor Steve Hanke, economist at the Johns Hopkins University and founder of the Troubled Currencies Project believes the figure should "not surprise anyone".
