French governor calls for ‘gradualism’ in fintech regulation
Specific regulations that allow for "a gradual adjustment of regulatory intensity" may be better suited to addressing risks in the financial technology (fintech) industry, the Banque de France governor has said.
Introducing the central bank's latest financial stability review, François Villeroy de Galhau questions whether banking regulations designed for "mature" institutions are appropriate for new entrants, highlighting the "fragile nature" of their "start-up-like" business models.
