President refuses to sign Hungary central bank law

Law would have drastically reduced scrutiny of central bank, critics allege

Hungary's president has referred a controversial law on the country's central bank to the constitutional court, the president's office confirmed today (March 10).
President János Áder, a former parliamentarian from the ruling Fidesz party, reportedly said the law ran counter to a constitutional requirement that public funds be managed transparently.
