Nigerian central bankers accused of banknote ‘mega scam’

A handful of employees at the Central Bank of Nigeria are accused of helping themselves to upwards of 5 billion naira ($25 million) worth of banknotes that were supposed to be destroyed last year, according to the country's Economic and Financial Crime Commission.

Six current and former staff members were due to appear before a federal high court today (June 2) to face allegations that surfaced when a routine audit found "anomalies" in cash destruction at the central bank.
