Lithuania takes delivery of first euro coins

The Bank of Lithuania has taken delivery of its first batch of Lithuanian euro coins, ready to be issued into circulation when the country officially joins the eurozone on January 1, 2015.

The central bank said it had received the coins at its vault in the capital, Vilnius. The Lithuanian Mint is currently working "at full capacity" to mint about 370 million coins, weighing a total of 1,740 tonnes, needed to be ready for the switchover to the euro at the start of next year.
