ECB draws Hungarian government’s fire over pay dispute
Hungary's government on Wednesday said it plans to challenge the European Central Bank's (ECB) opinion that forcing a pay cut on National Bank of Hungary staff would constitute interference with the central bank's independence.
In a comment published on Monday, the ECB said that amending the law governing the Hungarian central bank without taking due account of its views would violate its autonomy. The ECB added that "on issues concerning autonomy in staff matters, an aspect of a central bank's
