Trump attacks ‘horrendous lack of vision’ by Powell

President calls for return to crisis-era policies; acknowledges strong dollar is harming other economies

Donald Trump

President Donald Trump has said the Federal Reserve should reduce its policy rate “by at least 100 basis points, with perhaps some quantitative easing as well”.

The president’s tweet – the latest in a long series of critical remarks – appears to be an attempt to reassure potential voters the economy is healthy and to pass any blame for its slowdown onto the central bank. “Our Economy is very strong, despite the horrendous lack of vision by [Fed chairman] Jay Powell and the Fed,” Trump said.
