Mexico raises minimum wage above inflation

Central bank warned about inflationary pressures that excessive increase may create

The Mexican commission for the minimum wage decided to make an above-inflation increase of the country’s lowest salaries at its meeting on November 21.

The commission argued macroeconomic stability was shielding the Mexican economy from external shocks, allowing the country to boost the purchasing power of its low-paid workers. But the Bank of Mexico has warned that an excessive increase could revive inflationary pressures.
