The governor of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has said economic growth is likely to continue because "inflation is simply not a problem".

Speaking in New York on January 17, William Dudley said the Federal Reserve was unlikely to take action that could "snuff out" the current economic expansion.

"Not only are underlying inflation trends very subdued ... but the economy is not growing much above its sustainable long-term pace," he said. Dudley noted core inflation had risen only 1.7%
