Monetary policy takes time to influence inflation, Tombini tells senate

The strengthening of the US dollar and lower commodity prices have pushed inflation higher and for a longer period than expected, the Central Bank of Brazil governor has said.

Speaking in front of the senate on March 22, Alexandre Tombini emphasised the bank would not shy away from acting, if necessary to lower inflation toward the target of 4.5% by the end of 2017. Inflation in Brazil currently stands at 14.25%.
