RBA’s Richards sees possibility for digital Australian dollar

It could be possible for Australia to have a fully digital currency, the head of payments and policy at the Reserve Bank of Australia has mused. Speaking at the Payments Innovation 2016 conference, Tony Richards noted some major central banks were exploring the possibility of having fully digital versions of their currency. "In the more distant future, it is possible that we may see a digital version of the Australian dollar," he said. Nonetheless, he stressed the RBA had "not reached a stage
