Riksbank’s af Jochnick defends monetary policy stance

Swedish central bank needs to focus on price stability, first deputy says

Sveriges Riksbank cannot at present use its monetary policy to tackle risks in the housing market, but the policy is helping to drive a turnaround in the economy, first deputy governor Kerstin af Jochnick said today (August 21).

In remarks at Stockholm's Centre for Business and Policy Studies, af Jochnick said monetary policy had in the past been able to "lean against the wind" and help resist financial imbalances but, with inflation so far from target at -0.1%, the central bank would risk
