Cœuré defends Troika to European Parliament

Benoît Cœuré urged the European Parliament not to hold the Troika of the European Central Bank (ECB), the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund to account for the social hardship experienced in Cyprus, Greece, Ireland and Portugal.

Cœuré, a member of the ECB's executive board, told the Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee that he was "acutely aware" of the difficulties experienced by the country, but insisted the Troika was not responsible.
