Trichet hints at rate cut
Jean-Claude Trichet, the president of the European Central Bank (ECB), on Monday signalled the Governing Council would cut interest rates at its next meeting on 6 November.
Trichet stressed that a rate cut was a possibility but not a certainty, but his words mirror those made before past decisions to loosen policy.
He did not make any hint regarding the size of the potential rate cut.
