IMF staff identify ‘priority areas’ for SSA reform

Report addresses remaining challenges in financial sector development

Improving financial inclusion and removing barriers to credit are two of the "priority areas" for financial sector reform in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), according to a report published by the African department of the IMF on September 16.

In the report, Mauro Mecagni, Daniela Marchettini and Rodolfo Maino highlight how countries in the region have come a "long way" in the process of financial development. Progress has accelerated in recent years, they say, despite SSA banking systems remaining
