Janet Yellen brings impressive skills to the challenges she faces as she takes the helm at the Federal Reserve. Having headed the San Francisco Fed for six years before moving to the board of governors as vice-chair in 2010, she has extensive central banking experience. She is respected as an economist and, I believe, will be willing and able to stand up to lobbying by sectoral interests.
