Bank of Spain upgrades cash-handling directorate

New directorate-general will handle regional branches and banknote production

The Bank of Spain has created a new directorate-general dealing with cash and regional branches, it announced on March 1.

The new body was hived off from the directorate-general dealing with payment systems in January, a central bank spokesman said, under the leadership of Concepción Jiménez, then an assistant director-general.

Jiménez remains in charge of the organisation, and has been promoted to director-general. The central bank now has a total of seven directorates-general.
