Seychelles to demonetise old 100- and 500-rupee notes
Improved security features need to be “put to best use”, says central bank
The Central Bank of Seychelles is withdrawing the legal tender status of its old 100-rupee ($7.6) and 500-rupee notes following the success of its latest banknote series.
Launched in December 2016, the new series of banknotes celebrates the "Seychelles' unique biodiversity" and commemorates 40 years of independence for the nation.
In a statement published on February 15, the central bank notes the uptake of the new series has been "strong", such that "a significant amount" of the 1998 to 2005
