Daniel Tarullo, effectively the Federal Reserve's senior banking regulator after the global financial crisis, announced his early resignation from the US central bank on February 10. His departure gives new US president Donald Trump an unexpectedly early opportunity both to fill a senior role at the Fed and, possibly, to loosen the regulation of US banks.
