The Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the country's president are both investigating possible malpractice around bond sales to the central bank pension fund.

Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena tweeted on January 22: "I will appoint a Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry this week to investigate the central bank bond issue and recommend actions."

Separately, on January 23, the central bank put out a statement saying its own internal investigation is "currently underway".
