People: RBI’s new deputy gains BIS scholarship; Mozambique names deputy

India/Basel: The Indian government has appointed Viral Acharya to the role of deputy governor, weeks after he was awarded the Alexandre Lamfalussy Senior Research Fellowship by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

Acharya will take over the departments that manage monetary policy and research on January 20 after leaving his teaching post at the New York University Stern School of Business.

Throughout his academic career, Acharya has held a number of roles both in a teaching and advisory
