Hungarian central bank delays introduction of capital buffers

Move taken “to support lending” as banks sell off portfolios of “problem loans”

Hungary's central bank, MNB, has delayed the introduction of systemic capital buffers for the country's largest financial institutions and set out a four-year timetable for the project, it announced today (October 24).

The central bank said it had set capital buffers for all eight Hungarian banks it had identified as having the status of "other systemically important institutions" (O-Siis). The banks were originally supposed to have their initial capital buffer level in place by January 1, 2017
