Central bank would co-operate should enquiry into supervision powers be launched

The South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) would not hesitate to make its views known if there is a government inquiry into its powers of supervision, its governor said today (September 22).

Responding to questions from the press following the latest decision from the bank's monetary policy committee (MPC), in which it voted unanimously to leave interest rates on hold at 7%, Lesetja Kganyago acknowledged that the bank had faced criticism in recent weeks from government officials.
