Basel Committee warns on potential missed deadlines

"Significant number" of jurisdictions still falling short

The deadlines for numerous elements of Basel III are due at the end of 2016, but many jurisdictions are reporting "challenges" in meeting them, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision said on August 29.

In a progress report ahead of the September 4–5 G20 meetings, the Basel Committee said a "significant number" of the Basel standards are still awaiting transposition into national regulations. Jurisdictions promise they are still committed to the end goal, but many look likely to miss the
