Indian train robbery sees nearly $1m in soiled banknotes snatched
Soiled banknotes destined for the RBI stolen from train on the way back from Salem
A total of 58 million rupees ($868,000) was stolen from a train carrying soiled banknotes back to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 10.
The train, carrying 226 boxes of banknotes, was travelling from Salem in the south of India back to the central bank to be destroyed.
On arriving at the train station in Chennai, four boxes were found to have been tampered with. The train was carrying a total of 3.4 billion rupees.
