Malta’s deputy governor to remain in post, central bank confirms
Allegations “outside bank’s remit”, spokesman says
The board of the Central Bank of Malta has decided that deputy governor Alfred Mifsud will remain in his post, despite allegations he took bribes while managing a state-run commercial bank.
The allegations "do not regard any business of the Central Bank of Malta", said a spokesman from the institution in an email to Central Banking. "Therefore, at law, such allegations are outside of the bank's remit or competence."
