People: RBI and Bank Negara Malaysia promote deputies from within

India: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) promoted one of its executive directors to replace Harun Khan on July 4.

NS Vishwanathan takes over as deputy governor for regulation and risk management, starting a three-year term. He will be responsible for overall financial stability, regulation of banks and non-banks, inspections and risk monitoring.

Vishwanathan is a long-serving central banker, having joined the RBI in 1981. He has worked in areas including regulation and supervision, currency
