Sri Lanka appoints new central bank governor
President appoints economist Indrajit Coomaraswamy to succeed Arjuna Mahendran
Sri Lanka's president appointed a new central bank governor over the weekend, replacing the embattled Arjuna Mahendran with "top economist" Indrajit Coomaraswamy.
Coomaraswamy worked at the central bank from 1974 to 1989 – in the economic research, statistics and supervision departments – though he spent eight years on secondment at the finance ministry.
