UK mint starts production of ‘ground-breaking’ pound coins
Elements from the emblems of all four UK nations will feature on reverse of the coin
After more than 30 years in circulation, the UK's £1 coin is being replaced. Minting of new coins began today (March 31) at a rate of 4,000 a minute, as chancellor George Osborne announced the new design coin would enter circulation in March 2017.
