Haiti: Fritz-Alphonse Jean, a former governor of the Bank of Haiti, has been appointed the country's interim prime minister. Jean served as governor from February 1998 to August 2001. He was named prime minister on February 26 by a decree passed by Haiti's interim president Jocelerme Privert.

Jean will have a 120-day mandate as prime minster so long as he is given a vote of confidence by the country's parliament, according to local reports. He is obliged to hold a presidential election by April
